Castelnaud

Castelnaud, was supposedly built in 11th century . Owned by the Cathar Lord Bernard de Casnac at the begining of the 13th century, he was then taken by Simon de Montfort in 1214. A new castle has thus been rebuilt. The keep hasn't changed since.

During the 100 years war, the castle was often owned by the British. French owned it definitively in 1442.

In 17th century, the castle was rarely occupated. Abandoned after the Revolution. It began to degrade.
Classified Historical Monument in 1966, it has since been spectacularly rebuilt, and welcomed since 1985 « le Musée de la Guerre au Moyen Âge » (Middle Age War Museum).

In parallel to the castle's renovation, they also rebuilt lifesized war machines.
